About TextileCompete

TEXTILECOMPETE is an annual undergraduate textile students research work competition introduced to accommodate students’ participation in the Textile Researchers Association of Nigeria (TRAN) activities.

The competition aims to encourage innovation and provide a platform for showcasing research and creative work in the textile industry.

Winners will be awarded during the Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the 2025 Conference.


Eligibility Criteria

The competition is open to undergraduate students studying any of the following disciplines:

  • Textile Technology
  • Textile Science
  • Textile Engineering
  • Polymer and Textile Engineering
  • Polymer Science and Technology
  • Textile Graphics & Designs
  • Home Economics
  • Creative Textile Arts
  • Technical Textile
  • Fashion Design
  • Clothing and Garment Manufacturing
  • Leather Technology
  • Any textile-related discipline

Application Guidelines

  1. Download the application form from TRAN website – Download Form
  2. Fill out the form carefully, following the provided instructions.
  3. Scan and send the completed form (pages 1 & 2) to textilecompeteorganizers@gmail.com.
  4. Convert the scanned document to PDF format before submission.
  5. Once your application is reviewed, you will receive an invitation to participate.

Presentation Guidelines

The competition will take place virtually over two days, consisting of the following activities:

  • Opening Ceremony – Address by the National President
  • First Round – Initial presentation and judging
  • Final Round – Finalists present their work
  • Closing Session – Vote of thanks and awards

Rules for Presenters:

  • Each participant gets 15 minutes for their presentation and 5 minutes for Q&A.
  • Participants should ensure a stable internet connection.
  • Judges for the final round will not be affiliated with the qualifying institutions.
  • The competition starts at 4:30 PM each day and runs for 2-3 hours.
  • Judges, organizers, and TRAN executives will hold a pre-competition meeting.

Presentation Format:

Each presentation should be a PowerPoint (max 6 slides) covering:

  1. Problem Statement: What issue does the research address?
  2. Solution Overview: Describe the proposed solution with visuals.
  3. Comparison: How does your solution differ from existing ones?
  4. Milestones: Report key progress made.
  5. Impact: Social, Economic, or Environmental significance.
  6. Team Information: List of team members and their roles.

Participants may include a video clip (max 5 minutes) in their presentation.

  • Registration Deadline: August 30, 2025
  • Virtual Presentation: September 7-8, 2025
  • Awards Ceremony: During TRAN AGM 2025
